Look with pity on the sorrows of the people and communities in the path of Hurricane Ike, for whom our prayers are offered. Remember them, O Lord, in mercy, nourish their souls with encouragement, comfort them with a sense of your goodness, lift up your countenance on them, and give them peace; by the power of your Holy Spirit, help us to be in continual prayer for all those afflicted, to have the wisdom, strength and resources to help them when the storm has passed, and to faithfully witness to our Risen Savior throughout this trial, through Jesus Christ our Lord. I have read stories of those who are refusing to leave Galveston Bay. May God's mercy be with them because the storm surge from this storm will be devastating. My thoughts and prayers have been for everyone that has been and will be affected by this storm as it moves inland and northward through our nation's heartland.
