The Blog of Keith H. Mcilwain. Disciple of Jesus / Husband of Robyn / Father of 4 / Grandfather of 1 / Global Methodist Pastor / Beatles fan / Steelers fan
Awww Keith... you had me hooked for a minute. If THIS is the contemporary worship you hate, then you must like the stuff nowadays... probably 30 years AFTER that routine. Besides, they weren't leading worship, they were obviously doing a tv routine or something. Please don't tell me you're that far removed from REAL worship that you seriously thought that was a worship service!
Sonseed was a Christian pop band formed at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, New York in the late 1970s. NOT EXACTLY REPRESENTATIVE of the kind of quality worship music that is being presented today, but I do like their snappy outfits. Sometimes I wonder if Keith ever left the 70s! (not necessarily a bad thing in some ways...) I am amazed that half of the songs in the United Methodist Hymnal are still in there, and can't wait to see which ones get eliminated the next time the hymnal revision committee gets together. It makes me grin when traditional music snobs somehow try to position their worship as being superior to modern worship. It's just more of the same old "my church is better than yours, and let me tell you why" mentality that has existed since the Reformation. There are so many flavors of music for the same reason that there are so many flavors of churches - each speaks to different people on a different level. My grandmother still loves the Latin mass. Do I begrudge her the connection that she has with God through this form of worship? Absolutely not! It speaks to her heart, just as the powerful words and music of many contemporary worship leaders speak to MY heart.
I'm pretty sure "Jeeses" would even laugh at this guy...
ReplyDeleteThis is why I like Christian Jazz ;).
Aww, not ALL Contemporary worship is as silly as that (Trust me!). If we ever perform like that, you have my permission to smack me/us!! ;)

ReplyDeleteThis looks and sounds like a spoof of a really old Talking Heads video for "Psycho-Killer" from 1977. Just sayin'. ;) xo ~Heidi
